This Magic Mix from The BakerMama is a rainbow spin on the popular “puppy chow” Chex Mix holiday snack. “Magic Mix is one of our favorite easy treats because it’s colorful, festive and so simple to throw together! Kids love helping mix it up and it’s the perfect sweet snack for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations,” says Maegan, the mom of four behind The BakerMama. We love that this recipe only requires microwaving, making it easy for kids to do with a little adult supervision. Ingredients
- Lucky Charms Cereal (2 cups marshmallows separated from 6 cups cereal)
- Rice Chex Cereal
- Pretzel Snaps (or mini pretzels)
- Vanilla Candy Coating (or vanilla almond bark)
- Rainbow Nonpareils (jimmies or sprinkles)
- Trix Minis Cereal (or another rainbow colored cereal like Fruit Loops or Fruity Pebbles)
To Make:
- Separate the marshmallows from the cereal of the Lucky Charms. There should be about 2 cups marshmallows and 6 cups cereal.
- In a large bowl, combine the Lucky Charms cereal, Chex cereal and pretzels.
- In a microwave safe bowl, melt the candy coating according to package directions, usually 1 to 2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds until melted and smooth. Be sure not to over melt the candy coating as it will burn and become to thick to stir and coat the mix evenly.
- Pour the melted candy coating over the ingredients in the large bowl and toss to coat with a large spoon. Ingredients should be evenly coated in the candy coating.
- Spread the mixture out in an even layer on parchment paper. Immediately sprinkle with rainbow jimmies then the Trix Minis and the Lucky Charms marshmallows.
- Allow mixture to cool completely. Break apart to serve. Store in a clear glass jar or plastic baggie at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
